Consulting Fee

For purposes of financial disclosure, a “consulting fee” is income for consulting services that was directly received by you or your spouse (e.g., as an independent contractor of the source for a specific consulting project).

The term “consulting fee” does not include payments from clients to a legal entity that you have formed or your spouse has formed for consulting activities. For example, if you have formed a limited liability company, consult an ethics official at your agency for additional assistance.

The term “consulting fee” also does not include an honorarium. Report payments for an appearance, speech, or article according to the instructions for honoraria.
