FAQs: Whole Life or Universal Life Insurance

1. Do I mark the “Excepted Investment Fund” column for a whole life or universal life insurance policy?

No. Whole and universal life insurance policies are not viewed as excepted investment funds because they represent an obligation of the sponsoring company rather than an interest in an investment fund.

2. How do I value a whole life or universal life insurance policy?

For filing purposes, the value of a whole life or universal life policy is the cash surrender value, not the face value.
